This is a classic elk hunt in a wild, free-range setting. Hunting is primarily spot-and-stalk and calling during the rut, when bulls are most vocal and aggressive. In September and October, bugling bulls echo across the mountain valleys, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Hunters can expect to hike through pine ridges, glass open meadows, and work close to bugling bulls using cow calls and bugles to draw them into range.

Unlike high-fence hunts, these are free-roaming herds that move between valleys and ridges, making scouting and local knowledge essential. Our guides spend the year monitoring bull movements, identifying prime rutting areas, and locating mature trophies for our clients.

The prime season is the rut, mid-September through early October, when bulls are most vocal and aggressive. Later in the season, in November, hunts shift to spot-and-stalk as bulls break from the rut and rejoin bachelor groups, often feeding more openly in meadows and burned areas.
